Gamakatsu hooks were chosen because they are laser-sharp right from the factory. They hold their fine point longer than others tested and are incredibly strong. The hook is off-set with a small rolled up point which facilitates the hook set. The up-turned eye guides the hook to puncture rather than cut, allowing it to stay stuck firmly in the fish's mouth.
The front portion of the hook is left exposed in the design of the fly. This allows for a number of different terminal connections-- from Lefty Kreh's non-slip loop knot, to the Palomar knot. |
